Abstract

Strehl ratio (SR) is used to evaluate the beam quality in inter-satellite laser communications (lasercom) and its variation with localized distortion in lenses is investigated. It is shown that SR varies regularly with the characteristic parameters of localized distortion in lenses. To reduce the influence on beam quality, the conditions that localized distortions should meet are given. PV value, which is a very important parameter to evaluate lens surface error, is determined. This work can contribute to the lasercom system design.
