Abstract

Some results on the study of laser irradiation influence on magnetic macroscopic properties of Co–Fe–Si–B amorphous ribbons are presented in this paper. A pulsed laser, with the wavelength of 1.06×10 −6 m , pulse width τ=10×10 −6–20×10 −6 s and repetition rate of 5 imp/s was used for experiments. Co–Fe–Si–B amorphous ribbons exposed to low laser radiation energies exhibit an increase of the relative magnetic permeability up to 20% of the as-cast sample value due to the stress relaxation phenomena. The increase of the laser radiation energy induces a decrease of the relative magnetic permeability due to the appearance of crystallization phenomena in amorphous material. Pulsed laser irradiation of amorphous ribbons has proven to be a powerful tool for tailoring specific local magnetic properties by selectively inducing localized changes in the material microstructure.
