Abstract
The influence of temporal, spectral, and energy parameters of laser radiation on optical and nonlinear optical properties of solutions of CdS and As2S3 nanoparticles prepared by laser ablation in liquids was investigated. The observed blue shift of the absorption spectra of As2S3 and CdS nanoparticles was due to quantum size effect. The basic mechanism of nonlinear refraction of the aqueous solutions of As2S3 and CdS nanoparticles is a Kerr effect in the field of picosecond pulses, whereas the thermal effect is responsible for nonlinear refraction in semiconductor nanoparticles-containing solutions in the field of nanosecond pulses. The comparison of nonlinear optical characteristics of solutions and thin films of these semiconductors was discussed.
