Abstract

In the view to maintain ecological balance, downtrend in availability of petroleum-based fuels and stringent pollution norms have triggered to search for an alternate fuel for internal combustion engines. Present work is to study the influence of IT (Injection Timing), IOP (Injector opening pressure) and number of holes in nozzle on the performance and emission characteristics of diesel engine fueled by Rice bran Oil Methyl Esters (ROME) is reported. For a 5-hole nozzle, IOP at 240 bar obtained the highest brake power of about 28%. Gradual upturn of peak pressure was observed when the IOP was varied from 210 bar to 240 bar.
