Abstract

Ultrathin Ni layers were grown onto Fe(1 0 0) and subsequently annealed. Results obtained by linear magnetic dichroism in the angular dependent (LMDAD) photoemission show a variation of the magnetic signal of the Fe 3p core levels upon annealing, suggesting an increase of the Fe magnetic moment when Ni is diluted in the interface. Strong modulations in the LMDAD signal for both Ni 3p and Fe 3p core levels as a function of either photon energy or emission angle are found, indicating photoelectron diffraction effects.
