Abstract

Accurate quality of transmission (QoT) estimation has become an essential function for elastic optical networks. This paper investigates the influence of inter-channel nonlinear interference (ICNI) on the QoT estimation under flexible network configurations. Based on the modulation format dependent inter-channel nonlinearity calculation, the influence of interfering channel modulation format, channel spacing, and optical power on the QoT estimation is compared and analyzed. Numerical results show the Gaussian noise (GN) model- based nonlinearity estimation can underestimate the Q factor by 3.6 dB for ICNI limited systems.
