Abstract

The influence of the in-plane displacement and strain components on the twist fringe distributions in measurement of pure twist fringes are discussed in detail in this paper. The results show that all the in-plane displacement components u( x, y) and v( x, y) have no direct influence on the twist fringe distributions. It is also shown that only the in-plane strain component ∂ v( x, y)/∂ x and ∂ u( x, y)/∂ y have an influence on the twist fringe distributions and that all the other in-plane strain components ∂ u( x, y)/∂ x and ∂ v( x, y)/∂ y have no influence on the twist fringe distributions. Results from theory and experiments are in good agreement.
