Abstract

In-situ high-temperature EBSD characterization was carried out to directly observe reaustenitization in a low alloy steel with different initial microstructures. For lath bainite, globular austenite mainly nucleated at prior austenite grain boundaries, and grew gradually to form uniform small grains from 780 to 860˚C. For granular bainite, martensite-austenite constituents accelerated acicular austenite formation via martensitic reversion transformation. Then, acicular grains coalesced. Finally, recrystallization occurred due to high dislocation density in martensitic revered austenite.
