Abstract

The mechanical properties of nanocomposite materials are notably improved with the usage of carbon nanotubes as a reinforcement, according to many theoretical and experimental researches. Since carbon nanotubes rarely appear in ideal form, it is interesting to explore the influence of different defects within nanotube structure, such as vacancies, waved shape, etc., on mechanical properties of carbon nanotube, mainly because it ultimately leads to decline of nanocomposites mechanical properties. The given paper investigates the degradation of the basic mechanical properties of double walled carbon nanotubes. Different double walled carbon nanotubes patterns are considered, with different waviness ratio and vacancy defects.
