Abstract

This article discusses the influence of heat treatment on the micro structural and mechanical properties of stainless steel 316L (SS316L) structures constructed using directed energy deposition (DED). Stress relief and solution treatment at 650 °C for 2 h (HT1) and 1100 °C for 2 h (HT2) are used to reduce the ferrite phase in the SS316L structure constructed by DED. Microstructure and x-ray diffraction analysis showed that the austenite phase exists under any circumstances, and the strength of the ferrite phase decreases as the heat treatment temperature increases. Compared with as-built samples (ABS), the plastic retention capacity of heat-treated samples is increased, and the microhardness is decreased. The maximum elongation was observed in the HT2 sample, and the maximum ultimate tensile strength was obtained for as built sample.
