Abstract

The present study was undertaken to examine the influence of growing media and container type on quality plant production of Boxelder (Acer negundo L.) in Kashmir valley. Seedlings were raised in the nursery by using containers of different capacities and growing media (soil, sand and FYM) combinations in different ratio. The data revealed that the growing media soil: sand: FYM (2:1:1) showed best performance in terms of germination (85.30 and 73.20%), dry shoot weight (2.14 and 1.53 g), dry root weight (2.03 and 1.56 g) and survival (73.64 and 64.77%) respectively. In case of plant height and collar diameter, soil: sand: FYM (2:1:1) media recorded highest value (23.33 cm and 3.53 mm) whereas root trainer 300 cc and polybag remained at par with each other. Therefore, growing medium with soil, sand and FYM in the ratio of 2:1:1 and the root trainer of 300 cc was highly suitable for quality plant production of Boxelder (Acer negundo L.).
