Abstract

Ceramic coatings with incorporated graphene oxide (GO) sheets were prepared by a micro-arc oxidation technique to improve the antiwear and antifriction performance of the MgLi alloy. The GO-containing coating is mainly composed of MgO, Mg2SiO4 and SiO2 phases and possesses higher compactness, thickness and hardness than the GO-free coating. Furthermore, the GO-containing coating is capable of sustaining a convenient, low, constant frictional coefficient and is accompanied by slight adhesive and abrasive wear during the whole wear testing. Although the wear depth and volumes of all the specimens increased as the friction temperature increased to 200 °C, the wear volumes of the GO-containing coating were reduced by 80.60% and 50.08% when compared with the MgLi alloy and GO-free coating, respectively.
