Abstract

The hydration capacity of crushed fired dolomite with an apparent density of more than 2.90 g/cm3 is higher than that of uncrushed. However, even after storage for 30 days the weight increase resulting from hydration does not exceed 0.95%. The crushed grain of dolomite is more thoroughly impregnated with tar and this favorably affects the properties of the products. The use of crushed grains of dolomite for making tarred dolomite articles confers on them a better structure than with the use of rolled (uncrushed) grains. This increases the products' strength. For the production of dolomite refractories with tarred bonds it is desirable to use highly sintered crushed dolomite. When calcined dolomite is stored for long periods before use, it should be used in the granular (uncrushed) form.
