Abstract

Glutamine was found to be an essential component in Eagle's medium for the maximal multiplication of RS virus and for the development of syncytia cytopathic effect in Hep-2 cell cultures. The minimal amount of glutamine needed for syncytium formation was only 18 μg/ml. It is suggested that it be ascertained that the culture medium used contains glutamine when Hep-2 cell cultures are used for the cultivation and recognition of RS virus.
