Abstract

The influence of the basic parameters of cold Pilger rolling—including the lubricant viscosity, the extension, number of double passes in the cell, the mandrel taper, and mechanical properties of the rolled metal—on the thickness of the lubricant layer between the internal pipe surface and the mandrel is considered. Experimental data for the contact surface area are presented. The conditions corresponding to improved surface quality of the pipe are identified.
