Abstract
A sufficiently high creep strength is one of the requirements for candidate wrapper materials for fast sodium cooled reactors. The metallurgical stability and mechanical properties of ferritic stainless steels can be altered in sodium by carburization - de- carburization phenomena (1) and physicochemical processes (2). The behaviour of ferritic stainless steels in sodium depends not only on exposure temperature and time but also on the quality of the sodium.
