Abstract

The colourfastness and colour changes of eight types of arylmethane dyes (5 alkaline and 3 acidic) applied onto an acidic paper support after conservation treatments (fixing and deacidification) and after accelerated aging (moist heat and light) were followed and evaluated. Sandofix WE, fixing agent provided by the Neschen company and cyclododecane were used as fixatives. Deacidification treatment was performed in water using magnesium and calcium bicarbonates. One main result is that it is impossible to define one universal fixative, which would be appropriate for all kinds of the named dye.
