Abstract

RESULTS of investigations relative to the influence of inanition on reproduction in male rats reported by several investigators, including Siperstein (1921), Mason (1933), and Mulinos and Pomerantz (1940 and Mulinos and Pomerantz (1941), indicate that food limitation sufficient to cause marked loss in body weight of adults results in impaired spermatogenesis and testicular atrophy. Breneman (1941) has observed that limitation of the diet of young chicks causes a retardation of testis growth. Inanition in pigeons has been shown to be related to suppression of spermatogenesis and reduction of testis size (McCarrison, 1919; Marrian and Parkes, 1928).The object of the experiments reported herein was to observe the influence of feed restriction on fertility of adult male domestic fowls.PROCEDUREEighteen Rhode Island Red males hatched in February, 1941, were used in these experiments.
