Abstract

The band-gap renormalization (BGR) of a photo-excited quantum-well wire (QWW) in the presence of an external electric field was studied within the leading-order screening approximation. We have included the following contributions to the BGR: quantum-confined Stark-, Hartree-, exchange- and correlation contributions. Our numerical results for GaAs QWW showed besides a large difference between the BGR also interesting discrepancy between excitonic absorption spectra in the screening approximation and in the Hartree–Fock approximation.
