Abstract

The release rates of indomethacin from suppositories prepared with excipients of different hydroxyl values were examined by the Muranishi dialysis method. All the excipients tested had an inhibitory effect on the indomethacin release in comparison with the original powder. However, the greatest inhibition of the indomethacin release was observed when excipients of very low (OH 45) hydroxyl values were used. Excipients of an optimal range of hydroxyl values at about 15–30 are suggested to be most appropriate for the preparation of indomethacin suppositories.
