Abstract

Investigations concerning the temperature dependence of the degree of fluorescence polarization of fluorene, fluoranthene, perylene and 9,10-dimethylanthracene in ethanol show that the excess energy fed into the system by excitation at short wavelength is dissipated in such a short time that neither enhanced rotational diffusion nor a change in local temperature are observable.
