Abstract

The paper presents an analysis of publications dealing with the study of the effect of the environment (vacuum and gaseous or liquid medium), the counterbody material, and the temperature on the tribological behavior of diamond and diamond-like coatings. The high antifriction properties of the coatings are explained by their graphitizing during friction and the specific role of hydrogen.
