Abstract

This study investigated the influence of emotional intelligence ability level of electrical/electronic technology university students on academic motivation and attitude to study. The study was conducted at one conventional university and one university of technology. The data for study were obtained through the use of a questionnaire which elicited information on the students’ emotional intelligence ability level, level of academic motivation and students’ attitude to study. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Cohen's d and single and multiple regression analysis. Meanwhile, hypotheses were tested using T-test and analysis of variance. The results of the study revealed that the student in conventional university and one university of technology has high level of emotional intelligence, academic motivation and favourable attitude to study. The effect size of students, with regard to their emotional intelligence ability level in two universities is weak. The emotional intelligence investigated was found to be significantly and positively associated with the respondents’ level of academic motivation and students’ attitude to study.
