Abstract

The paper studies the influence of electrical properties of homogeneous media on reconstruction of microwave holograms recorded by a subsurface radar. The influence of relative permittivity and of attenuation coefficient were estimated separately. The main study was performed by numerical simulation using computational electromagnetics software Altair FEKO. It was shown that the main factor affecting the shape of a hologram is the relative permittivity of the medium that greatly determines the antenna pattern. To verify the model, the experiments were carried out with subsurface holographic radar of the RASCAN type, emitting a continuous signal at a single frequency of 6.4 GHz. The experimental results confirm the validity of the numerical model and determination of the main factors shaping a microwave hologram.
