Abstract

The selenium content of liver and longissimus muscle tissue from 94 pigs in Canada fed various diets was determined. Dietary selenium ranged between .06 and .61 µg/g dry matter; liver selenium between .93 and 2.76 and longissimus muscle selenium between .38 and 1.84 µg/g dry matter. The relationship between dietary selenium and tissue selenium was estimated to be: Liver Se = .971 + 5.79 Diet Se −4.74 Diet Se2 , R2 = 5.15;Muscle Se = .154 + 5.264 Diet Se −4.526 Diet Se2 , R2 = 63.3.
