Abstract

The influence of conformational disorder on the optical absorption line shape of a polymeric chain is investigated. The model allows for randomness of spatial orientations of consecutive segments in the polymer chain. Intrinsic disorder is taken into account phenomenologically in the Green function of the chain. It is shown that the influence of conformational disorder on the line width may be considerable.
