Abstract

The problem of the indentation of an absolutely stiff cone into an isotropic elastic half-space when there is molecular adhesion between the contacting bodies is investigated. An exact solution of the problem is given within the Johnson–Kendall–Roberts model under the condition of complete sticking (no-slip condition) between the bodies. The solution is compared with the solution of the same adhesive contact problem in the complete absence of friction.
