Abstract

Optical and ESR measurements have been performed on Cr doped PbMoO 4 single crystals. A linear correlation has been established between the chromium concentration and the intensity of the color-inducing 430 nm band. From ESR results, a mechanism involving chromium ions located at molybdenum sites together with oxygen vacancies is suggested to be responsible for the yellow coloration of PbMoO 4 crystals.
