Abstract

The influence of chemical composition on petrophysical properties in different types of Ordovician and Silurian carbonate rocks in Estonia was studied. The properties variations are caused by geochemical features of the main processes - sedimentation and secondary alterations of rocks. In nonaltered rocks the electrical, density and seismic properties mostly controlled by the amount and composition of insoluble residue. Its distribution and composition depend on facies zonation and sedimentation environment. Comparative analysis of chemical composition of secondary dolomites revealed their varying geochemical types, which are reflected in petrophysical properties. Dolomitization exerts a dominant control on magnetic properties and grain density of carbonate rocks.
