Abstract

1. The influence of the cadmium stearate concentration on the kinetics of the thermal decomposition of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was studied. Beginning with a definite concentration, cadmium stearate is a stabilizer of the polymer. 2. The amount of the crosslinked polymer formed in the thermal decomposition of PVC with cadmium stearate decreases with increasing salt concentration. 3. Cadmium sebacate and azelaiate accelerate the thermal decomposition of PVC. 4. The stabilizing action of cadmium stearate on the thermal decomposition of PVC is explained by effective absorption of hydrogen chloride by the salt.
