Abstract

Dielectric and ferroelectric properties were systemically investigated in (Ba1−xCax)(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 lead-free ceramics synthesized by the conventional solid state method. When the Ca2+ content was in the range of x = 0.05 ∼ 0.11, lattice parameters shrunk, Curie temperature decreased slightly and permittivity increased. However, the Curie temperature decreased sharply with the Ca2+ addition further increasing over x = 0.12, accompanied by the occurrence of a second phase CaTiO3. The sharp decrease of the Curie temperature can be attributed to the change of the Zr/Ti ratios. Moreover, all the (Ba1−xCax)(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 ceramics were relaxor ferroelectrics and the diffuseness increased with Ca2+ addition until complete diffuseness.
