Abstract

1. 1. The incorporation of d-(U- 14C)-glucose into fat body acylglycerols was investigated in male and female stable flies Stomoxys calcitrans after blood feeding on various days. 2. 2. Maximum incorporation into the triacylglycerol fraction of the fat body occurred in both sexes within 3 hr after the injection of glucose. However other acylglycerols and free fatty acids did not show significant incorporation. 3. 3. Sexual dimorphism is indicated by a greater accumulation of radiolabel in the triacylglycerol fraction of the fat body of the males compared to the female flies. 4. 4. The large incorporation of glucose into the triacylglycerol fraction after the first blood meal suggested that the blood meal is responsible for factor(s) triggering lipogenesis in the fat body.
