Abstract

Permanent deformation is the special disease of asphalt pavement and also is the major consideration during pavement design. Making clear the mechanism and influencing factors of asphalt pavement permanent deformation is the basis of taking effective measures to reduce the permanent deformation of asphalt pavement. Base course is one of the primary factors affecting the permanent deformation of asphalt pavement. There is not an accurate conclusion whether the mechanism of permanent deformation between semi-rigid asphalt pavement and asphalt treated base asphalt pavement is same or not. Therefore, whether the same measures applied for reducing the permanent deformation of semi-rigid asphalt pavement is suitable for asphalt treated asphalt base asphalt pavement is still unknown. For this reason, the typical structure of semi-rigid asphalt pavement and asphalt treated base asphalt pavement are selected in this paper, and the viscoelastic finite element analysis method is used to establish the finite element model of asphalt pavement. The difference of the permanent deformation between semi-rigid asphalt pavement and asphalt treated asphalt pavement is analyzed in this paper in order to provide guidance for the development and application of asphalt treated base asphalt pavement.
