Abstract

We tested the hypothesis that Peromyscus leucopus are lured into trees by bait by marking 100 selected trees with peanut butter and using the fluorescent powder technique to monitor trails travelled by the marked mice. Marked P. leucopus climbed 34 trees baited with peanut butter and 8 without bait. This pattern was significant and supported our hypothesis that P. leucopus were lured into trees by bait. Further, no control tree was climbed unless the paired baited tree also had been climbed.
