Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of azithromycin on the secretion of IL-6 and IL-8 in A549 cells and bronchial epithelial cells stimulated by Aspergillus fumigatus spore. Methods The A549 cells and bronchial epithelial cells were stimulated by Aspergillus fumigatus spore suspension respectively. After 24 hours, different concentrations (0.5 mg/2.5 mg) of Azithromycin and Dexamethasone were added and compared the effects of different drug concentrations on the level of two cytokines by detecting the concentrations of IL-6 and IL-8. Results The secretion of IL-6 and IL-8 in A549 cells and bronchial epithelial cells stimulated by Aspergillus fumigatus were significantly increased. No matter in Aspergillus fumigatus group or Dexamethasone group, the concentrations of IL-6/IL-8 were decreasing and the decrease was more obvious with the increase of drug concentration. Conclusions Azithromycin and Dexamethasone can inhibit the secretion of IL-6 and IL-8 in A549 cells and bronchial epithelial cells and reduce inflammatory response caused by Aspergillus fumigatus spore. Key words: Aspergillus fumigatus spore; A549 cells; Bronchial epithelial cells; Azithromycin; Cytoking
