Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the relation among role efficacy, discretionary effort, autonomy and skills, and knowledge. A structured questionnaire was administered to 480 retail store managers from Bengaluru City. The proposed research hypotheses were evaluated using the PLS-SEM model. Role efficacy was significantly linked to discretionary effort. In addition, the evaluation of discretionary effort reported a significant positive impact of autonomy and skills and knowledge. The study empirically supports the impact of role efficacy on discretionary effort of retail store managers. Further, there is a practical utility of the findings in support that clear definition of role will spontaneously evoke discretionary behavior, which is further supported by manager’s skills and knowledge, and autonomy they experience at work.
