Abstract

The influence of arachidonic acid and indomethacin on in vitro uterine and vaginal motility has been studied on the domestic hen. Arachidonic acid induced a prostaglandin-like contraction of isolated uterine strips and a PGE2-like relaxation of vaginal strips. These effects were inhibited by indomethacin. Incubation of tissue strips with indomethacin resulted in a suppression of spontaneous motility in uterine strips and in an activation of vaginal spontaneous activity.
