Abstract

The copper-doped strontium hydroxyapatites with general formula Sr10(VO4)6-x(PO4)xO2CuyH2-y-δ (x = 0–6; y = 0–0.24) were synthesized through the solid state reaction technique. Synthesized materials were analyzed by the powder X-Ray diffraction (PXRD), Raman spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and colorimetry. A crystal structure of the materials obtained was characterized by the Rietveld refinement method (refined parameters included the unit cell dimensions, atomic positions, and position occupancies). All samples were shown to possess the hexagonal apatite structure (P63/m space group). It was established that the decrease of x changed the color of copper-doped samples which became more blue and intense. Influence of the anion substitution on crystal structure and color features of the copper-doped strontium hydroxyapatites was investigated for the first time.
