Abstract

We report variations between 10.7 Å (Cu 0.965Ge 0.035) and 15.8 Å (Cu 0.81Ni 0.19) of the periodicity of oscillatory interlayer exchange coupling for (111)-oriented CuXCo multilayers. These results are correlated with the topology of the Fermi surface CuNi and CuGe alloys. They confirm that interlayer exchange coupling is due to electronic states with stationary q-vectors passing through the neck of the spacer layer Fermi surface.
