Abstract

The combination of biomass combustion and oxyfuel combustion is usually defined as oxy-biomass combustion, which is beneficial to relieve greenhouse gas emission. Due to the alkali content in herbaceous biomass is high, its influence on ash characteristics under O2/CO2 atmosphere and corresponding solutions need deep investigation. To solve ash fusion problems, a kind of phosphorus based additive was applied to mix with rice straw and combustion under O2/CO2 atmosphere. The ash characteristics from perspectives of potassium retention, ash fusion temperatures, potassium transformation and combustion characteristics were studied and compared. The reaction mechanism was comprehensive analyzed by both experiment and simulation. The combustion characteristics was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. After addition of NH4H2PO4, high melting potassium compounds were produced and potassium fixation ratios at 900 °C was increased 3.35 times. Four ash fusion characteristic temperatures of RS were higher than 1500 °C and NH4H2PO4 has slight negative influence on combustion.
