Abstract

Recycle concrete aggregate (RCA) as a substituted material for foamed asphalt mixtures (FAM) can release the pressure faced by waste management departments and increase environmental benefits, but the utilization of RCA in asphalt pavement is always limited and few studies focus on recycling of RCA on FAM. To solve this problem, the characteristic of foamed asphalt mixtures with RCA was explored in this study, the six different influence factors including curing methods, bituminous type and content, RCA, cement, curing time and redbrick debris on strength and moisture susceptibility were investigated, the coupling action between RCA and the other five factors in FAM was analyzed. The results indicate that 100% with RCA as a substitute for natural aggregate can be used in FAM for base and subbase course in asphalt pavement, cement treatment improved but redbrick deteriorated the performance of FAM, RCA does not affect the length of the curing time. The specific constitution of the other five factors leads to the groove on the performance of FAM with 100% RCA. This research may help to better understand the performance of FAM with RCA and the noteworthy effects of using RCA as an alternative substitute.
