Abstract

ESCA measurements on cobalt oxides reveal (1) chemical shifts which correlate with effective cationic charge; (2) satellite peaks which indicate the transitions taking place; (3) the presence of two oxygen peaks O(I) and O(II) for readily reducible transition metal oxides. The results give an indication of the polarization of the metal-oxygen bond.
