Abstract

The influence of the alkaline ions on the kinetics of anodic dissolution of rhenium has been investigated in neutral and basic solutions. In these media, the K +, Rb + and Cs + ions have an inhibiting effect on the rhenium corrosion rate, corresponding to some peak shaped polarization i— U curves. The observed passivation is due to the formation of an alkaline perrhenate layer on the electrode. The position of the observed passivation peak on the potential scale depends on the pH of the electrolyte. The higher is the pH, the better is the passivation.
