Abstract

We present a model of slow roll inflation in the context of effective supergravities arising from stringtheories. The uplifting of the potential (to generate de Sitter or Minkowski vacua) is provided by theD-term associatedwith an anomalous U(1), in a fully consistent and gauge invariant formulation. We develop a minimal workingmodel which incorporates eternal topological inflation and complies with observationalconstraints, avoiding the usual obstacles to implementing successful inflation (theη problem and the initial condition problem among others).
