Abstract
In pituitary adenomas, which are known to display decreased vascular density in comparison to normal pituitary tissue, the exact role of angiogenesis in tumor transformation and progression remains unclear. As our previous studies performed on pituitary adenoma cell cultures have shown an increased basal production of the pro-angiogenic and pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-8 compared to normal pituitaries, we have chosen to take a closer look at the possible role of inflammation-modulated angiogenesis in pituitary adenomas.
