Abstract

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the lung is a rare and generally considered benign reactive inflammatory process of unknown etiology. It is composed of a variety of inflammatory and mesenchymal cells including plasma cells, histiocytes, mast cells, lymphocytes, and spindleshaped mesenchymal cells. This report refers to a 62-year-old female who suffered from hemoptysis for two months. Chest X-ray showed a big round soft tissue mass in the right lower lobe (RLL) of her lungs. Chest computed tomography revealed a 8×5×5 cm^3 space occupying lesion with central low density and peripheral irregular thick wall in the dependent portion of the RLL of her lungs. Under the impression of carcinoma of the lung, RLL lobectomy was performed. Pathological examination showed an inflammatory pseudotumor. To our best knowledge, this is the first case reported in Taiwan. In this study, we reported the clinical characteristics, discussed the pathological findings, and reviewed the literature concerning this rare pathological entity.
