Abstract
It is shown that the double infinity of infinitesimal transformation about solutions of the KdV equations which can be generated by a recursion operator and its inverse can also be obtained through a Lie product. Each of the doubly infinite hierarchies of nonlinear evolution equations obtained from these infinitesimal transformations is shown to be integrable. Similar results hold for the sine-Gordon equation.
