Abstract

A large class of Ising models with competing interactions (generalised axial next-nearest-neighbour Ising models) is introduced to accommodate realistic lattice structures like HCP and BCT. The sequence of an infinite number of spatially modulated commensurate phases (2j3) (where j=0,1,2...), found recently for the ANNNI models, appears again.
