Abstract

AbstractInfinite dilution volatility data have been correlated for alcohols, esters, aldehydes, ketones, and sulfur containing hydrocarbon solutes in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents over a wide temperature range using a temperature dependent energy parameter for the pure solute. When a polar solute molecule is surrounded entirely by nonpolar molecules, polar molecular interactions such as hydrogen bonding do not play an important role. Therefore, a single, pure solute parameter is sufficient for correlation.Calculated heats of solution at infinite dilution agree well with published calorimetric data.
