Abstract

Titanium-molybdenum spray coatings were obtained by a plasma spraying process and upgraded by infiltration of copper into the coatings. Dense coatings were obtained by infiltration from a copper foil. Adhesion of the coatings to the substrate was markedly improved compared with the as sprayed. condition. The coatings also showed high corrosion resistance to 10%HCl and 10%H2SO4 solutions. The results of wear tests indicated that the coating retains excellent wear resistance, since the bond strength between sprayed particles was increased by the infiltration of copper into the spray coatings.
